The makers of “83,” a World Cup cricket drama starring Ranveer Singh, have boarded the NFT train. They plan to release the official digital collectibles (NFTs) for the film on December 23. The “83” artefacts, which will be issued on the Polygon blockchain ($MATIC), will comprise autographed actual cricket memorabilia, video scenes, animated digital avatars, and previously unseen posters and photos.
“We are happy to move into this fascinating world of digital possibilities to allow Bollywood and cricket fans the option to benefit from the movie’s box-office success in a manner never done before,” the film’s director, Kabir Khan, said of the NFT approach.
He added: “83′ is a moment in Indian history that everyone relates to, which makes this a unique opportunity for collectors, and we are excited to see the response.”
For the exclusive distribution of the movie’s NFTs, the producers have worked with NFT Labs, Inc. and Social Swag, an influencer-led fan engagement platform.
Atharva Sabnis, CEO of NFT Labs, said: “The year 1983 will go down in history as the year that revolutionised Indian cricket forever. The tale of that World Cup victory has been passed down through the generations, making this a timeless moment. For the first time, people may own a piece of that moment and a piece of history thanks to NFTs!”
Sabnis added that this was “a possibility that no one could have imagined before Web 3.0”.
